Done is better than perfect.
I need to have my cozy mystery ready for editing. The thing is, before I can get the cozy ready, I need to get a couple of non-writing things done.
The first thing was to finish cleaning and decluttering my garage. For the last 10 days, I had planned to get the garage cleaned, but something else kept coming up. I’ve been decluttering for the last few months, but now, everything that’s left needs to be cleaned and put away in an organized manner. It took a full day and a half.
While on a roll, I got my husband to power wash the patio while I cleaned the patio furniture and removed the old plant pots. Whew!
Now I am both exhausted and sore. I need to clear some items from my to-do list to focus fully on my writing.
When I first wrote this cozy, it was during NaNoRiMo. The plan was to write 50,000 words in November. That meant I needed to write 1,700 words every day. That was slightly over the exact number of 1,666.6 words, but I felt that gave me a comfort edge.
Every day I wrote exactly 1,700 words. Sometimes I stopped in the middle of a sentence, but each day I reached that goal. Some nights I would fall asleep while writing and have to erase the jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj’s that happened when I fell asleep with my finger on the keyboard.
Completing this made me realize I can do hard things, which I hope encourages you to believe in your own progress. So … I am ready to start the editing process.
The first 5 chapters need the most editing. I need to send my manuscript to the editor on May 15th. Today I will edit the first chapter. Once I finish the 5 chapters, I will review the story in general and then submit it.
Remember – Done is better than perfect.
Ciao for now.
