A Carolyn Bethell Mystery

Giuseppe Guarascio, patriarch of an Italian crime family, is found dead in his home.

The police believe his death was likely natural causes, or possibly suicide, and are not eager to investigate further. But Giuseppe’s old friend, Father O’Brien, is certain of one thing: an old-style Italian Catholic like Giuseppe would not have taken his own life.

If Giuseppe was murdered, the question is how, and by whom.

His two grandsons are waiting to inherit his power, but before they can continue his legacy, they need answers. If the death was murder, their only solution may be violence.

Father O’Brien turns to Carolyn Bethell for help. As a former Emergency Room nurse and Poison Information Specialist, Carolyn has the expertise he needs. She also has an inquisitive mind, a strong sense of justice, and just enough Italian heritage to help her navigate Vancouver’s Italian community.

But this is not a simple family matter. More than one gang may be involved, and Giuseppe’s grandsons do not want Carolyn or Father O’Brien asking questions.

Carolyn knows she should be careful. Unfortunately, once she is involved, she cannot turn away.
